Planned, Sustained Growth
Our region is growing. Kirkland is amazing. Those are both facts.
While we need to always be forward thinking as a community and as a City, we need to be strategic and thoughtful in how we approach planning and development.
Our goal should be creation of Live, Work, Play communities. There are many ways to define it and tag lines being used today, but the reality is that good City planning includes space for housing, for work, for schools, churches, and required services. These are not things that the development community will ever take the lead on. That is the responsibility of the City to lead and shape.
What is the "right size" for Kirkland? What is the best way to handle our housing needs? How do we maintain diversity in our job base while encouraging new employers to come to town? How do we maintain our community character while allowing for change. These are all things we will solve together.
We can create an even more vibrant, amazing city by working together to create that vision. The neighborhood plans do a great job of defining goals for each neighborhood but stop short of creating a common vision for the City. As your elected Council Member, I will partner with the Kirkland Alliance of Neighborhoods in a meaningful way as the City updates the Comprehensive plan. Together we can shape the future of the City that respects the unique character of each neighborhood while allowing densification, new job opportunities, and new housing opportunities.
Through intentional planning, we can create a growth strategy that will be sustainable and will build on the strengths that we are all proud of in our great City.
